PERU
COLORS + CULTURE + HIKING + GASTRONOMY
I traveled to Peru with a small group of eight, eager to experience the country’s rich history, welcoming culture, scenic treks, and world-renowned food. From the coast to the Sacred Valley and up into the high Andes, each stop on the journey gave us something to savor.

We began in Lima, where we spent two nights at the Belmond Miraflores Park. Perched above the Pacific, the location was ideal for exploring by bike and foot. A walking food tour introduced us to Peru’s bold flavors and local favorites—the perfect way to ease into the trip.
From Lima, we flew to Cusco and checked into the JW Marriott El Convento, a beautifully restored convent in the heart of the city. Over two days, we explored Cusco’s vibrant streets, historic Inca sites, and enjoyed an incredible al fresco lunch at Pacha Papa.
Next, we journeyed into the Sacred Valley. Our introduction began with a breathtaking hike starting in the village of Amaru, offering wide-open vistas of the Andean highlands. We continued on to the village of Viacha, where we learned about traditional Andean farming, before ending the day with a tour of Pisaq and check-in at Lamay Lodge.
The next few days brought deeper immersion. From the town of Lamay, we visited the archaeological site of Ancasmarca and trekked over a mountain pass to reach the remote and peaceful Huacahuasi Lodge. The following morning, we drove to the remote village of Hillock to meet a family in the community of Marcacocha, where we were welcomed into their home and participated in a beautiful traditional ceremony to honor Pachamama (Mother Earth).
Later that day, we headed to Ollantaytambo, an ancient town still living on Inca foundations. After exploring the site, we checked into Willka T’ika, a wellness retreat known for its peaceful gardens and generous hospitality.
From there, we boarded the scenic train to Aguas Calientes, watching the Urubamba River wind through the dramatic valley. At Inkaterra Machu Picchu Pueblo Hotel, we enjoyed a relaxed evening and lovely dinner before our big day.
Visiting Machu Picchu was everything we had hoped for. We hiked up from town in the early morning and entered the citadel as the sun began to rise—a breathtaking, humbling moment none of us will forget.
Back in Cusco, we ended our trip with two luxurious nights at the Belmond Palacio Nazarenas. Our final day was spent wandering local markets, hiking nearby ruins, and soaking up the magic of the Andes before heading home.
Trips like this remind us why we travel: to connect, to be moved, to experience something bigger than ourselves. At Trekese, we design meaningful journeys rooted in culture, history, and just enough adventure to stir the soul.
