Over eight days, we stayed at four distinct lodges, each offering its own landscape, wildlife focus, and feel. The logistics were seamless, with bush flights connecting us between regions, and expert guides meeting us at every airstrip to take us directly into the wild.
We began in the Khwai Concession at African Bush Camps’ Khwai Leadwood, a warm and welcoming riverside camp with strong community ties. From there, we flew to the Savute region of Chobe National Park, where we stayed at Savute Elephant Lodge by Belmond—well-known for dramatic predator sightings and impressive elephant populations.
In the heart of the Moremi Game Reserve, Xigera Safari Lodge brought a more modern and design-forward take on the safari experience, surrounded by waterways and wildlife. We ended the trip at Jack’s Camp in the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans, where the desert landscape, meerkats, and vintage camp aesthetic created an entirely different—and unforgettable—experience.
Throughout the trip, we were guided by passionate, skilled trackers who brought the bush to life. On our first morning, we followed a roaring male lion who came within five feet of our vehicle. Days later, we watched a lioness quietly carry her newborn cub to safety. These moments weren’t just exciting—they were emotional, humbling, and deeply memorable.
In between drives, we were cared for by incredible lodge teams. The hospitality across Botswana is something special—genuine warmth, great storytelling, and a serious talent for cocktails, stargazing, and perfectly grilled Botswana beef.
